Coming onto this trip, I expected it to be very relaxing and more of a vacation. Before I left, all I had known about the trip was the daily schedule and a list of what I had to bring. The first two days upon arrival seemed to be consistent with my notions until it reached the third day, the start of construction.

I can truly say that I have never worked, sweat, struggled, or persevered so much in my life. However, not only was the experience insightful in helping me realize the unstretched physical capability I possess, but it also taught me the powerful influence of working as a team. Being first witness to the everlasting effects of others allowed me to persevere both mentally and physically.

And the lesson I take away from this is that I should try not to depend on the expectations and efforts of others to work hard, but I should instead discover such influence and determination within myself. Moreover, the nightly meetings that took place also offered me a myriad of advice and valuable lessons. It has been such a noble and graceful experience to have watched complete strangers converse vulnerable thoughts and memories with each other.

It was also beautiful to see how the impact of one person realizing their perspective allowed for other people to feel more comfortable in expressing their thoughts. All in all, I think the greatest lesson I have learned was the process of growth. How one must stretch beyond his or her comfort zones to not only broaden his/her awareness and perspectives, but also to truly attain growth as a person.
