회사에 입사한 지 얼마 안 된 Emma가 직장 동료가 된 Matt에게 처음 자기소개를 한다.

Emma: Hi, I’m Emma. I’m new here - got hired a few weeks ago. It’s nice to meet you.
Matt: Hey, Emma! I’m Matt. It’s nice to meet you as well. I’ve worked here for about 4 years. How do you like it so far?
Emma: It’s great! A much nicer atmosphere than my previous job. People actually smile here!
Matt: Yeah, we’re a bit more relaxed and the boss is great, she’s so thoughtful. It’s her kindness that makes us want to work harder for her.
Emma: She interviewed me herself! That’s the kind of personal touch I appreciate.
Matt: She invites us to her beach home for Memorial Day weekend, it’s actually a good time.
Emma: Oh, I saw the evite, I was wondering if people were going. Do you bring something with you?
Matt: Yeah, I know her favorite wine so I always bring a bottle.
Emma: Good to know. I know a cute little gift store around the corner from here. I’ll go after work.

Matt: 안녕하세요, Emma! 전 Matt이에요. 만나서 저도 반가워요. 전 여기서 4년 정도 일했어요. 여기서 일해 보니 어때요?
Emma: 너무 좋아요! 전에 일하던 곳보다 훨씬 분위기가 좋네요. 여기 사람들은 웃고 있어요!
Matt: 네, 우리는 좀 편하게 일하는데다 사장님도 멋지고, 굉장히 사려 깊어요. 그분이 친절하셔서 우리는 더 열심히 일하고 싶은 마음이 들죠.
Emma: 사장님이 직접 저를 인터뷰하셨어요. 제가 고마워하는 게 그런 개인적인 배려예요.
Matt: 메모리얼 데이 주말에는 사장님의 해변가 집으로 초대를 하시는데, 정말 좋은 시간을 보내곤 하죠.
Emma: 아, evite 봤는데, 사람들이 정말 가는지 궁금했어요. 갈 때 뭐 가져가세요?
Matt: 네, 사장님이 제일 좋아하는 와인을 알거든요, 그래서 항상 한 병씩 가져가요.
Emma: 좋은 정보네요. 이쪽 코너에 아담하고 예쁜 선물 가게를 알아요. 일 끝나고 거기 가 봐야겠어요.

직장 분위기를 칭찬하는 법. People actually smile here!

첫인사 뒤에“People actually smile here!”라고 말하면 분위기가 금세 밝아집니다. 말뜻은“여긴 다들 정말 웃네요!”예요. 약간의 놀라움과 긍정이 담긴 이 표현은 직장 분위기를 자연스럽게 칭찬할 때 딱 좋습니다. 칭찬은 짧을수록 진심으로 들립니다.
