WASHINGTON -- In the tumultuous debate over renewed calls for a withdrawal from Iraq, each side argues that it stands shoulder to shoulder with the troops in the field and that the other side’s approach is undermining military morale.
워싱턴 - 이라크에서 철수할 것인지에 대한 새로운 요청을 놓고 벌어지고 있는 격렬한 논쟁에서 찬반 양측은 서로가 전장에 있는 군인들과 어깨를 나란히 하고 있으며, 상대편의 주장이 군인들의 사기를 저하시키고 있다고 주장했다.

도널드 럼스펠드 국방장관은 20일 ABC 방송국의 시사프로그램인 “디스 위크(This Week)”에 출연해 “생명과 팔다리를 잃어가면서도 그것이 숭고한 이유에서 비롯된 것이라 믿고 있고 또 사실이 그런 미국 군인들의 입장에서 생각해 보라. 그들은 그들이 좋아지고 있다고 믿고 있으며 우리가 승리할 것을 믿고 있다”고 말했다.
