어린이 교육에선 비판을 가하기보다는 대화의 기회를 열고 칭찬과 격려를 하라고 한다. 부정적이기 보다는 긍정적(Positive)인 태도를 취하라고 한다. 그러나 요한은 분봉 왕 헤롯(Herot the tetrarch)에게 그의 동생의 아내(his brother Philip’s wife)인 헤로디아(Herodia)를 취한 것을 강력히 책망함으로 헤롯의 미움을 사 버렸다. 헤롯왕은 자기의 행동을 회개 하기는 커녕 요한을 옥에 가둬 버렸다. 자기 죄를 감추기 위한 음모 행위이다. 요한의 행동엔 삶과 죽음의 계곡 속에서 옳은 것은 옳고 그른 것은 그른 것이라고 하였다. 요한의 투옥이라는 나쁜 뉴스에 반해서 하늘에서 “성령이 비둘기 형체로 강림하더니 너는 나의 사랑하는 아들”이라는 음성이 하늘에서부터 들렸다. 이 좋은 소식은 멋진 메시야 선포식이라 할까?
