그 옛날 ‘엄마 찾아 삼만 리’라는 영화가 상영된 적이 있다. 자식이 엄마를 찾는 이야기(story) 속엔 얼마나 애환이 담겨져 있을까? 그런데 여기엔 부모가 자녀를 찾은 광경이 나온다. 절기를 마치고 돌아 갈 때에 예수는 그 곳(예루살렘)에서 머물고 부모들은 그것도 모르고 귀향
길에 올랐는데 저녁이 되어 그가 없다는 것을 알고 다시 예루살렘에 올라갔었다. 경험이 없는 자는 그 심정이 얼마나 아픈지를 잘 모를 것이다. 아는 사람에게 묻고 고생고생 하다가 결국은 사흘 만에 성전에서 그를 찾았다. 그런데 놀랍게도 그는 누군가와 담론을 하고 있었다.
(After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the docters, both hearing them, and asking them questions.) 부모와 자녀 간에 무슨 이야기가 전개 되었을까? 그들 사이에 무슨 숨 막히는 대화가 나왔을까? 하는 흥미로운 대목이다.

43. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. 44. But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. 45. And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. 46. And it came to pass, that after three days found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.[Luke 2:43-46]

43. 그 날들을 마치고 돌아 갈 때에 아이 예수는 예루살렘에 머무셨더라. 그 부모는 이를 알지 못하고 44. 동행중에 있는 줄로 생각하고 하룻길을 간 후 친족과 아는 자 중에서 찾되 45. 만나지 못하매 찾으면서 예루살렘에 돌아갔더니 46. 사흘 후에 성전에서 만난즉 그가 선생들 중에

■Structure & Vocabulary
*and when they fulfilled three days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem.=그 날들을 마치고 돌아갈 때에 아기 예수는 예루살렘에 머물렀더라. tarried=tarry(남아있다, 머무르다)의 과거로 y를 i로 ed를 붙였다. *부모는 알지 못하고=And Joseph and his
mother knew not of it.=Joseph and his mother did not know it. *behind=at or toward the back. look behind=뒤를 바라보다. The train is behind today.=The train is late today. 기차가 늦다. The child is at the back of you.=The child is behind you. 네 뒤에 아이가 있다.
*supposing him to have in the company,=(삽입구)=as they supposed that he had been in the company=그들이 동행중에 있는 것으로 상상했다. Supposing your father saw you, what would he say? 너희 아버지가 널 보면 뭐라고 말할까? believe, think, require as a condition/
An invention supposes an inventor. 발명은 발명자를 조건으로 (설명)된다. 발명은 발명자를 회상 시킨다.

*친족과 아는 자 중에 있는 줄로 알고=and they sought him among their
kinsfolk and acquaintance. kinsfolk=closed members of one family, closed one’s relatives.(친족) *acquaintance=persons known, but not intimately(잘 알지는 못하는 사람들) *midst: middle=teachers and learned men.
