주의 사자가 옆에 서고 주의 영광이 목자들을 비쳤다는 것에서 우리는 큰 의미를 발견한다. 그 당시 목자들은 그렇게 대단한 직업이 아니었으리라 본다. 그런 목자들에게 주의 영광이 비쳤다는 것은 예수 탄생을 경배키 위한 주의 특별한 배려이었으리라. 옛날 구약엔 죄로 물든 인간이 하나님의 영광을 본다는 것은 죽음을 각오했다고 한다.(출33:18-20) 특히 20절에 “네가 내 얼굴을 보지 못할 것이니(Thou canst not see my face) 이는 나를 보고 살자가 없을 것임이니라(for there shall no man see me, and live)”로 기록되지 않았는가? 그러나 우리는 예수 그리스도의 긍휼과 은혜로 하나님의 영광에 참여하는 혜택을 받지 않았던가? 나의 몸과 영혼을 주께 바치지 않겠는가? 예수가 우리에게 한 은혜의 사랑은 우리가 아무리 헤아려도 부족할 뿐이다.

9.And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were afraid. 10.And the angel said unto them, Fear not for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11.For unto you in born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. 12.
