South Korean and U.S. officials are moving to repatriate the bodies of two South Korean workers shot dead in an ambush in Iraq.
The Foreign Affairs-Trade Ministry on Wednesday said the bodies will be flown to Kuwait on Wednesday before being returned to South Korea.
South Korean acting Ambassador to Iraq Sohn Se-joo visited a U.S. military base in Balad, about 100 kilometers north of Baghdad, Tuesday, where the bodies are being kept and discussed the issue.
The bodies of the victims, identified as Kwang Kyung-hae, 61, and Kim Man-soo, 46, were earlier flown from a U.S. military base in Samara, about 40 kilometers north of Balad, near where the ambush by the Iraqi insurgents occurred.
The two, both employees of South Korean firm Ohm Electric, were shot on their way to Tikrit on a mission to repair damaged power transmission towers.
Two other workers were wounded in the attack, but they are recovering in hospital.
One of the victims, Lim Jae-seok, had bullets removed from his legs and is now able to walk on crutches, officials said.
The other, Lee Sang-won, was shot three times in the buttock. One bullet was removed and he is in a stable condition, officials said.
Lee will be transferred to a U.S. military hospital in Ramstein, Germany, on Wednesday for surgery to remove the remaining bullets, officials said.
