NVIDIA Intensifies Quantum Computing Research… Establishes Research Center in Boston
NVIDIA, a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) chips, is diving headfirst into quantum computing research and development.

On the 20th, at its annual developer conference (GTC 2025) held in San Jose, NVIDIA is hosting ‘Quantum Day’ to shed light on the present and future of quantum computing.

Quantum computers, which leverage quantum mechanics to dramatically accelerate computation speeds, are expected to solve some of humanity’s most challenging problems.

The event will feature NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang alongside industry leaders, who will assess the current state of quantum computing and present future strategies.

This marks the first time NVIDIA has held a ‘Quantum Day,’ drawing attention to whether this could accelerate predictions for the ‘quantum computing era.’

In January, CEO Huang forecasted that “highly useful quantum computers might take 20 years to become commercially viable.”

On the 19th, NVIDIA announced the establishment of the ‘NVIDIA Accelerated Quantum Research Center’ (NVAQC) in Boston, USA, dedicated to quantum computing research.

CEO Jensen Huang stated, “Quantum computing will enhance AI supercomputers to address some of the world’s most critical challenges, from drug discovery to materials development.”

He added, “The NVAQC will play a groundbreaking role in advancing CUDA-Quantum hybrid computing through collaboration with various quantum research communities, paving the way for massively useful accelerated quantum supercomputers.”

NVIDIA plans to collaborate at the NVAQC with Harvard University’s ‘Quantum Initiative (HQI)’ and MIT’s ‘Engineering Quantum Systems (EQuS)’ group, among others.

Quantum computing specialists such as Quantinuum, Quantum Machines, and QuEra Computing will also participate in development efforts at the NVAQC.

NVIDIA will provide collaborators with its quantum computing software platform ‘CUDA-Q’ and the ‘GB200 NVL Rack-Scale’ AI accelerator system, designed for large-scale data computation.

Competition in quantum computing is intensifying, with Google, Microsoft (MS), Amazon, and D-Wave recently announcing successive breakthroughs in quantum research.
