In the recent election we finally arrived at a long awaited result. With Biden and his administration being the next in office once inaugurated in January 2021, we will be sure to see considerable changes to many aspects of this country, especially its economy. As a result of the economy’s adjustment the stock market will also develop accordingly.
We can already see opinions being made about how the stock market will change. As Lianna Cha, a junior at Oxford Academy, says, “ I did see reports of how the economy will get damaged under Biden’s presidency, and accordingly, the stock market also won’t fare too well.” People think that the stock market will suffer due to new policies, but I believe that is not the case. The argument that since Biden will prioritize COVID and quarantine the stock market will drop can be made. However, this is not true because that focus would mean that medical companies working on a vaccine would see a rise in value because of their increased importance. The small businesses that would close have little to no effect on the stock market and large corporations that do affect the stock market would be able to handle the policies because the United States has already been in quarantine for over half a year. I think that Biden’s new policies will benefit certain niches in the stock market and would not cause a general decrease.
As I mentioned before, Biden’s policies regarding COVID, maruijuana use, and energy will benefit companies in those categories. For example, a junior at Sunny Hills High School, Daniel Kong, said, “that would have some effect on the companies that are directly related to COVID such as Pfizer and BionNtech, the leading companies of developing the COVID vaccine. As for the economy in general, I believe it wouldn’t be affected as much.” This pretty much perfectly sums up my prediction of how the stock market will change. With Biden and his administration stressing the importance of the areas listed, those companies will surely be able to rise in value accordingly.
As long as Biden follows through with his plans regarding COVID, maruijuana usage, and energy, I think companies in those categories can expect to see an increase in value. With the stock market as a whole in mind, I think that huge dramatic changes are out of the question and will mostly follow the same patterns it has been following these past few years.
