Unemployment in Our Society

As everyone in this world knows by now, hundreds, if not thousands of businesses are being forced to close entirely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This event is affecting millions of people. To be more specific, 14.7% of the United States which is 20.5 million jobs. This is a staggering number, and the biggest rate of unemployment since the Great Depression. Yes, the Great Depression which was one of the if not the worst economic crises in the entire modern recorded world. The unemployment rate went from 4.4% in March, then up to where it is now.

Now with the amount of jobs missing anyone would be worried about their lives and economic stability. However, I believe that our government is actually handling this situation rather well. One way is through stimulus checks. Simply put, the government is giving everyone that meets certain standards $1,000. Extra money is also being given to guardians or parents with minors to take care of. With this money people are able to take care of living expenses with the most important things like food and housing. With this money, it allows people to spend more money which also helps keep the economy moving and active.

Along with the government efforts, there are many COVID-19 relief/charity organizations helping as many people as possible. Many organizations such as UNICEF, ST Jude, and the American Red Cross are donating and helping people who are unable to sustain themselves. Along with these financial donations, there are countless food banks contributing to the cause and helping families that can not afford their food. With all this help, people only need to look for help. Obviously charity alone is usually not enough to fully care for a family and hold on to our comfortable lives.

This is where the internet comes into play. There are countless ways to make money online and through internet based methods. Companies can move onto an e-store/website and make money from there. Those who can not can begin an online venture whether that be a business, investing in stocks (although that may be a hard thing to do right now), and much more. The major population should keep themselves operational through the help of the government, charity organizations, and the internet.
