The club known as LAFC (Los Angeles Futbol Club) came to be on October 30, 2014. Their home stadium being the Banc of California Stadium, and it has a maximum capacity of 22,000 people. They are local rivals of LA Galaxy, who have been around since 1996. Their home ground across town at the StubHub Center.
Soccer fans in the Los Angeles area have always supported LA Galaxy, but with the founding of LAFC there have been more options for fans to support. LAFC have been rampant in the past few years growing bigger and bigger. Some people even claim that they have overtaken the Galaxy. LAFC are managed by Bob Bradley while at the reigns for LA Galaxy is Sigi Schmid. Bob Bradley was born locally while Schmid was born in West Germany. The two managerial powerhouses have always been a joy to watch. The German international brings an attacking-style tactic with more passes and possession combined with high pressing. While Bob Bradley plays a more counter-attack style of soccer where shot accuracy and speed come into play.
So far this season, LAFC sit in a comfortable 4th place with 36 points in 22 games played, while The Galaxy outfit struggle to maintain the pace in 5th place on 35 points with 23 games played. LAFC proudly showcase star performing youngsters Latif Blessing (21) with 5 goals and 6 assists, while Diego Rossi (20) boasting 7 goals and 4 assists. Some of their senior players include Carlos Vela, who has racked up 8 goals and 3 assists this season, and teammate Adama Diomande, currently their top goal-scorer, with 9 goals and 3 assists. While this is an impressive tally, this is nothing compared to the two star players of LA Galaxy: Romain Alessandrini (29) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (36). Alessandrini has played a more technical/playmaker role for the Galaxy outfit providing 7 goals and 5 assists. Ibrahimovic is completely blowing it out of the water with 15 goals and 4 assists in 17 games. This is unheard of in the MLS. Although he may be old, he is an example to all players that age is just a number.
LAFC already have a star-studded roster with lots of young, future stars. This is already a massive head start on the Galaxy. Galaxy may have a more talented side, but their players are aging, and fast. Their two star players are 29 and 36 years old. This would give them at least 1-2 more years of top-level soccer. There is something that the LAFC outfit lack though. They currently don’t have a stand-out player. They need to look beyond their youth academies and beyond the MLS. In the past, LA Galaxy have brought in aging talent from Europe. For example, Liverpool’s former captain Steven Gerrard played for Galaxy in the later stages of his career. Another, more famous player, who played for Galaxy was David Beckham. The man who saved England in the 2006 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers with a brilliant freekick in injury time to etch his name into the history books of the world cup. Now, LA Galaxy have Zlatan Ibrahimovic who played for the prestigious Manchester United before joining the Galaxy.
LAFC’s roster would only provide them with a 3rd or 4th place finish with the way they are playing currently. With the help of a foreign star who has experience with the biggest stage in World soccer, they could push for 2nd or maybe 1st. Defensively, they could look toward Croatian, Darijo Srna. The 35 year old is experienced in attacking style soccer and can provide the assists needed to start deadly counters for LAFC. Looking to secure the midfield, they might have to look towards Michael Carrick. The former Manchester united skipper, the 35-year-old will tidy up the midfield with accurate passes and playing for Manchester United who also plays counter-attack style soccer, he‘ll fit right in. Looking at the attack, they have two options that they could sign: former Barcelona FC striker, Samuel Eto’o currently plays for Turkish side, Konyaspor, can provide the clinical attacking prowess that LAFC might need. The other, slightly more expensive, option they are could sign is Jermain Defoe. The Englishman played for London club, Tottenham Hotspur. He racked up an impressive 162 goals in arguably the most competitive league in the world: The Premier League. He is 7th place for goals scored of all time in the Premier League. The 35 year old could provide an outlet for their attack.
