The company Amazon was known for delivering purchases to home, however being successful on such wasn’t enough. In the following years, Amazon expanded their categories through their acquisition of Zippo, AbeBooks, Twitch Tv and etc.
Recently, June 2017 Amazon offically announced their purchases of WholeFoods. However, it wasn’t till mid-2018 that Amazon decides to take action in their acquisition. By now, amazon customers are able to pick up designated food at the reserved store next to WholeFoods.
In addition Prime members now will received a 10% discount of some of their purchases at WholeFoods, resolving complaints on the over priced food products.
According to the interview on california students, most of the Whole Foods customers weren’t aware about the option in which they could purchase Whole Foods groceries on Amazon. So far, half of the interviewers are willing to try out the new style of purchases at Whole Foods, yet the other half believes the process of purchasing food on amazon ahead was completely unnecessary.
With the will to participate as one of the amazon customer purchasing Whole Food goods, Tom (Interviewer) replied “I like to follow trend, also Amazon’s delivery has always been very convenient, so I would like to support them.”
On the other hand, holding an complete opposite opinion, Junhu (Interviewer) stated “ Whole Foods often aren’t very crowded, there’s no need to purchase food ahead of time. And sometimes shopping are fun experiences.”
As it might appear, beyond wanting to make profit through the acquisition of Whole Foods, Amazon was aiming for something broader. Base on Greg Petro’s report, the reason for Amazon’s acquisition was an investigation in the modern days purchasing pattern and habits.
Quoting from the Jeremy Stanley, the vice president of data science, “One of the wonderful things about groceries is that compared to other e-commerce purchases, groceries are habitual and frequent. People need groceries every week.”
Furthermore, the acquisition of Whole Foods demonstrates Amazon’s desire in stepping in the field of physical stores. So far, the service has already been activiated in Sacramento, California, and Virginia. It will certainly expand to more states. Despite the short amount of time the service has been on the market, it will take years to see the final results of this new style of purchases.
