Why 2018 Olympics would hold in such a economically disadvantaged area? What are the benefits and drawbacks of it? According to Steve Mollman, North Korea is 50 miles away from where the 2018 Winter Olympics is going to be held, from my point of view this is a risky place for the 2018 Olympics because everyone knows that the U. S. and North Korea are having some huge problems right now, and the relationship between the two countries are pretty bad, if something happened then this could leads to WWIII.

“South Korea will host the games Feb. 9-25 in Pyeongchang, which is just 80 km (50 miles) away from the heavily fortified border with North Korea. That location might seem to be ill-considered given North Korea’s frequent missile tests and fiery threats toward the united States (where president Donald Trump has unleashed fiery words of his own, including a memorable warming of ‘fire and fury’).” by Steve Mollman. This part describe how dangerous it is to settle the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, Korea. My question is why would this take place is South Korea? As it says in the article by Steve Mollman “Other factor might be at play, including the lack of a strong winter sport culture in South Korea. But clearly it didn’t help when North Korea detonated a ‘horrifically destructive’ hydrogen bomb earlier this month, or launched ballistic missiles over Japan in late August. Also not helping are the military responses from the US and South Korea: After the bomb test, aircraft from the two countries practiced taking out simulated North Korean installations in South Korea’s mountainous Gangwon province-the same province where the games will be held.” Maybe North Korea had been practice bombing during the Olympics for a long period of time, because they know that the location of the Olympics is going to be easier for them, who knows. Obviously the drawback is there, but what about the benefits? From my point of view I think that the reason why North Korea wants to join the the Olympics this year it’s because that they want to show their friendliness not only to America, but to the world as well. Another possible way could be that they just want to join.

Why 2018 Olympics would hold in South Korea? Why North Korea wanted to join the game in the last moment? 2/8/18, 3-6 am, Pyeongchang.
