To the surprise of many citizens in the United States, Donald Trump was elected as the 45th President on November 8, 2016, and because many people are angered by the election of Donald Trump, California, one of the states to vote for Hillary Clinton, is proposing to secede from the U.S.

According to CNN Politics reporter Gregory Krieg, “More Americans voted for Hillary Clinton than any other losing presidential candidate in US history. The Democrat outpaced President-elect Donald Trump by almost 2.9 million votes, with 65,844,954 to his 62,979,879…”

As stated by many new sources, such as ABC News, New York Times, and Forbes, Hillary Clinton had 2,357,260 more votes from U.S citizens than Donald Trump. This essentially underscores the fact that most people believe Clinton would serve as a better president and may lead to people losing faith in their own country. Therefore, because of the unfairness that many people feel from the results of this election, California is proposing to secede from the U.S

The state attorney general issued an official ballot measure title and summary Tuesday. The campaign can now start gathering the more than 585,000 signatures it will need to qualify for the 2018 ballot,” stated U.S News. “The initiative would form a commission to recommend avenues for California to pursue its independence and delete part of the state constitution that says it is an inseparable part of the U.S.”

Because of the rate at which the 2018 ballot for California’s secession is growing, California no longer belonging to the U.S is a very possible outcome for the future of California. However, another pressing issue that many Californians are unable to see, is if the state of California would be able to survive on its own. Furthermore, many states are trying to convince California that the possible benefits that could be gained is not worth the chaos that could result from it.

As stated by Former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, “Yes, we’re going through some difficult moments right now, as we have in the past, but I guarantee we will work our way out of this... One thing you can count on in America is even though it falls every so often it dusts itself off, gets up and gets going again.”
