Once Upon a Time, a show aired on ABC and produced by Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, is set in a fantasy world as well as “reality” in Storybrooke, Maine. The show is based off of all of the fairy tale characters we read as a kid as bedtime stories from Characters in ancient fables and legends to more modern Disney princesses. Some of the many interesting characters include Captain Hook, Elsa, Ariel, Mulan, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio, Belle, and the Wicked Witch of the West.
‘Once Upon A Time’, as a dark curse set by the Evil Queen hits the fairytale world, Snow White and Prince Charming are about to give birth to a baby (Emma). Therefore, for their daughter to have “a new beginning”, they send her off into a “wardrobe” (connecting to The Chronicles of Narnia) where she‘s transported to our world, apparently biding her time until she’s ready to return, fill her destiny, and save her people from the dark curse. Emma grows up in the city of Boston, not knowing that magic exists, and she suddenly opens to door to a little boy that states, “My name is Henry, I am your son.”
The main actors involved are Jennifer Morrison, who plays the role of Emma Swan and is the main character. Henry Mills, the biological son of Emma Swan and is played by Jared S. Gilmore. The Evil Queen who adopts Henry is played by Lana Parrilla. Ginnifer Goodwin plays the role of Snow White. Josh Dallas plays the role of Prince Charming. Colin O‘Donoghue plays the role of Captain Hook, among others in a decorated cast.
Good versus evil is one of the main themes that Once Upon a Time revolves around. The main villain throughout the whole show is Rumpelstiltskin, played by Robert Carlyle, who brings the readers notice on how “magic always comes with a price.” Characters that were born evil have the chance to choose their future by making the right choices throughout the story. All of the characters have a chance to choose their future, even though they had a different.Well known heroes turn villainous, and vice versa. Flashbacks from the characters past and even walks to the future are present in the story plot. The relationships and interactions between the characters make the show come alive.
There are currently six seasons, and as we speak, the seventh season is being filmed. Each season consists of 22 episodes that are around 50 minutes long. All of the spectacular actors that fit their characters so perfectly makes Once Upon A Time a show that once you start watching, you will never want to turn back. ABC’s Once Upon A Time will have you rooting for the underdogs, fighting for true love and a happy ending, and viewing magic in a whole different perspective.
