지난봄에 컴퓨터로 친 SBAC(Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium) 시험, 즉 초·중·고 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11학년이 치르는 Common Core(공통학습기준)에 맞춘 새로운 학력고사자녀 점수와 학교 평균이 나왔습니다. Computer-based, online and computer adapted test입니다. 5학년과 8학년 10학년(Life Science) 과학시험만 아직도 CST Science Test를 치고 영어와 수학은 컴퓨터로 SBAC를 쳤습니다.
Explaining solutions 해답을 설명하고
Providing rationales 이유를 대고
Using graphing skills 그래프 사용, 설명하고
Listening to audio recordings and responding to questions
about what was heard 테입으로 듣고 들은 바에 의해 대답하기 등의 시험입니다.
스코어는 2,000에서 3,000으로 4단계(performance bands)로
나누어 집니다:
(1) Standard Exceeded 아주 잘 했음
(2) Standard Met 공통학습기준 이해했음
(3) Standard Nearly Met 거의 맞음
(4) Standard Not Met 미달, 못했음
부모로서 할 수 있는 일:

3. CAASPP. CDE. CA. GOV 등의 website에 들어가서 CAASPP 결과를 리뷰할 수 있습니다. 또 Practice Test를 print 하세요. 자녀와 SBAC Practice Test를 같이 해보며 공부하세요.
4. 수학도 ‘Explain your answer. 너의 답을 설명해 보라’라고 요구합니다.
5. 실생활에서 문제 해결력(real-life problem solving activity)을자녀가 할 수 있어야 합니다.
6. 자녀에게 다음과 같은 질문을 하세요.
영어(English Language Arts)는 4가지의 subject areas(claim areas)Areas: (1) Reading, (2) Writing, (3) Listening, (4) Research/ Inquiry
수학(Math)은 3가지 Areas: (1) Problem Solving & Modeling/Data Analysis, (2) Concepts & Procedures, (3) Communicating Reasoning 가 있습니다.
1) How did you get the answer?(어떻게 그 대답을 얻었나?)
2) How do you know that your answer is correct?(그 대답이 맞는지 어떻게 아니?)
3) How would you use this in Real life?(실생활에 어떻게 이것을 사용하겠니?)
4) Why do you need to know how to do this?(이것을 아는 방법을 위해 무엇을 왜 알아야 되니?)
5) What evidence can you find?(무슨 증거를 찾을 수 있니?)
6) What is your predicted outcome?(네가 예상하는 결과는 무엇인지?)
7) What questions would you ask?(무슨 질문을 묻겠니?)
8) What changes would you make? Why?(무슨 변화를 하겠나?)
9) How would you reformulate your hypothesis based on results?(결과에 의해 너의 가정을 어떻게 다시 만들겠나?)
10) What could be combined to improve?(더 발전하기 위해 무엇을 합치겠니?)
자녀가 영어시험을 준비하기 위해 National Geographic, Time for Kids, 영어신문(newspaper) 같은 non-fiction informational texts를 많이 읽도록 하세요.
