남과 닿는 것이고
좁은 나를 벗어나
다양한 문화를 접하는 설렘이다.
“깊은 우울과 권태와 종잡을 수 없는 열등의식에 빠져 자신이 미워질 때, 삶에 아무런 의미도 못 느끼며 괴로워질 때, 그래서 기쁨과 활기가 없어지고 머릿속마저 텅 비어 어떤 사고도 진전되지 않을 때 나는 스스로에게 SOS를 보내며 재빨리 읽을거리를 찾아 손에 쥐도록 한다.” (이해인의 ‘두레박’ 중에서) 누군가와 닿으면 조금씩 생활이 달라진다. 남과 닿는다는 건 두렵고 겁나는 일이지만 좀 더 따뜻한 미래가 보이며, 저마다 인생의 보호막이 되곤 한다. 책을 읽는다는 것은 남과 닿는다는 것이고 그리고 좁은 나를 벗어나 다양한 문화 스펙트럼과 접하는 것이다. 독서의 계절 여름, 중고교생들이 대학에 가기 전 읽어야 하는 고전 리스트를 칼리지 보드가 소개했다.
여름방학 중고생에 유익한 고전 리스트
책은 자녀들만 읽어야 하는 것은 아니다. 아래 소개하는 독서목록은 13세 이상이라면 누구나 읽고 즐길 수 있는 영원한 고전들이다. 자녀들과 함께 책을 선택해서 같이 읽고 의견을 나눠 봐도 좋고 서로 소리 내어 온 가족이 돌려가면서 읽기놀이를 해도 좋은 것들이다. 여름휴가 여행을 만약 자동차로 한다면 오디오 리코딩 북을 사서 들으면서 차창 밖으로 스치는 풍경과 빗대어 보아도 좋을 듯하다.
