Cheju Island and other parts of the nation are braced for the likelihood of rain Saturday under the influence of typhoon Matsa, moving northward from Taiwan, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA).
Moving at a speed of 41 meters per second, the typhoon is veering away from the Korean Peninsula but accompanying cloud will drench Cheju Island and other areas through Monday.
About 5-30 millimeters of rain will fall today in Kyonggi, Kangwon, Chungchong, Cholla, Kyongsang provinces, while Cheju Island will receive around 10-40 millimeters.
The weather agency advised people to prepare for the possible heavy rainfall and strong winds until Monday.
According to the KMA, daytime highs yesterday soared to 34 degrees Celsius in Taegu, Chonju and Kwangju, 33 degrees in Chunchon, Taejon and Seoul, and 32 degrees in Kangnung.
Today’s midday highs will climb to 32 degrees in Seoul, Kangnung and Suwon, and 33 degrees in Chunchon, Chongju and Kwangju.
