Amazon Web Services (AWS) launched in 2006 as a cloud computing platform, offering storage, computing power, databases, AI, and analytics. Some platforms that run on AWS include Netflix, Spotify, and Airbnb.

In 2014, Amazon released the Amazon Echo with Alexa, a device used in homes to control smart home devices, set timers or alarms, make calls or send messages, and track Amazon orders. To date, Amazon has sold over 60 million units and many other types of devices. In 2017, Amazon acquired Whole Foods Market for around ＄13.7 billion USD, and in 2018, it purchased Ring for approximately ＄1 billion. Shortly after, Amazon became a trillion-dollar company. It has been estimated that, in 7 years, Amazon managed to sell over 10 million Ring Doorbell cameras.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, Amazon became essential for home delivery and media services. In 2020 alone, Amazon generated revenue of almost ＄400 billion. In July 2021, Andy Jassy became the CEO of Amazon. Before becoming CEO, Jassy was the CEO of Amazon Web Services and had been with Amazon since 1997. Jeff Bezos‘s net worth is around ＄240 billion USD, while Amazon is now estimated to be a ＄2.6 trillion company.

Currently, there are more than 9 million sellers globally, with over 2 million active sellers using Amazon. To date, over 300 million people use Amazon, and there are more than 200 million Prime members worldwide.
