There are many people who had discussions about if college athletes should get paid. People from the NBA level or high level basketball associations had taken part in talking about this issue. This type of situation is already visible between the NBA and the WNBA. Woman basketball players are earning way less money than the males, which can be seen as the act of being sexist. This also had brought attention to the NBA players, and made comments about this. The question of if college athletes should be paid has no final answer yet, but many people have great points of the pros and cons.
One con that everyone can think of is that there is no point of the athletes getting paid more. Before they go to the college, the colleges usually send them a full scholarship, which basically pays for their stay and other purposes there. Colleges would be in debt of money if they have to pay their athletes for their sports, if they had spent money on them already. Another con is that colleges are supposed to be about preparing the students onto the next step for their jobs, but the athletes don’t. The athletes may have their majors, but they focus more on the sport in order to get to the next level. If the athletes do get paid, then the college students should be paid as well.
On the positive side, the athletes should be paid because of the danger the sport can be. If one of your best athletes gets hurt and he doesn’t get paid, that will make the college look bad. The parents would get mad at them for the colleges to not pay to help their children be taken care of. According to Jason Chin, 10th grader who has a family member who is a college athlete, describes how desperate the family is for the athlete to get paid. They can’t stress the fact that college athletes need to be paid. Also, Lebron James said this in a tweet that the college players are just like how the NBA players, but play at a lower level. He sees them as the same, which shows that college athletes also have to be paid. This has slowly become one of the world’s common questions.
Now everyone knows both sides of this argument and that no one will ever be paid at the college level unless someone stands up about it. Whoever reads this and has a college basketball son, encourage them to go to the NCAA and make a rule that all should be paid.
