Each student has their own teacher that they favor the most, whether it is how well he/she gives A’s or how they act towards their students. On the other hand, there are some teachers that tend to receive abundant amounts of hate and criticism from their students. Now, here is the question: should students be able to grade their teachers?

As a current student, I personally think that teachers should most definitely be graded.
There are numerous teachers who tend to not care about their teaching style just because they are not the ones who are learning the subject. Teachers should be well informed of their progress, improvements, and their faults. For example, if most students of that particular class are falling asleep or not paying any attention, it gives a message that the teacher is not doing a very good job entertaining the students to learn. Woo Chung, a senior who attends Sunny Hills High School states, “Yes students should grade their teachers...They should have an overview of how they are doing from the students.”
Students’ judgments can motivate them to have more responsibility and seriousness for their job. It can influence and transform the class into a better environment for them to learn and improve.

However, if schools do put this idea into action, how would they do it? One of the solutions for this is that schools should send out an evaluation form to the students at the middle and end of every year. In this form, schools can add questions like, “How was this teacher’s teaching style?”, “Do you think you have learned a lot through this teacher?” In addition, including a separate section to write more information about the teacher can provide specific grading. After the students have evaluated the teachers, the school can organize the overall grading that the teachers have received and hand it to the teachers so that they could view their progress in their job. This can prove what they need to fix or improve and what they have been doing well so they can continue on with their personal strategies.

As a result, teachers should receive judgment and grading from their students just as students receive grades from their teachers. I personally think that it is a beneficial and educational way of improving the class environment and the school.

Hopefully, students will feel joy in grading their teachers and increase their passion to learn.
