When you look at the busy streets of Los Angeles you may think you have gone back in time. In the windows of clothing stores, mannequins model cargo pants and turtlenecks.

The 90’s clothing trend has made its way to the teenagers of 2019. I myself follow this trending style and wore navy blue colored corduroy pants with a bulky belt. My aunt then joked that she used to wear clothes similar to mine in high school; she even said I should have searched her closet and gotten similar pants for free! Even though the known 90’s clothes trend resurfaced, it has been critiqued in recent years to the teenagers’ liking.

Similarities between the fashion of 2019 and 1990 are the patterns and accessories. Plaid is a great example of this. Pants with this specific pattern catch the eye of many teenage girls. With either a tight and flared fit or a baggy and straight leg style, plaid pants are a very popular craze among the youth population, comparable to the 90’s. An icon of the 1990 film industry, Cher Horowitz, (the star of the movie Clueless) displayed a memorable outfit that could easily be recognized by the movies’ fans.

The classic outfit the sassy character wore in 1995 was a bright yellow plaid jacket and skirt. Many people today even refer to her as a fashion icon of the past! Teenagers these days like to pair their plaid pants with chains. Chains are typically worn on your neck or hung along your pants. Some chains I’ve noticed around my high school have designs such as thick locks and safety pins. Chains matched with plaid is a very popular trend among LA teens and similarly relates to what 90s kids used to wear.
