The Most Creative Halloween Costume Is…

Kenneth Kim/ Whitney HS 10th

Halloween, a holiday that is well-established and entrenched all over the United States, is a time for people of all ages to come together and have a good time. From pumpkin carving to knocking on random people’s front doors asking for candy, Halloween has definitely taken a huge curve from what it used to be.

It was originally an ancient Celtic Festival of the Samhain people with bonfires being lit up and costumes worn to ward off ghosts. With this in mind, costume wearing was a tradition picked up from the ancient Celts, and is still one of the most popular activities to do for almost anyone who celebrates Halloween.

With creativity just flowing through people’s heads around Halloween time, many people may plan their Halloween costumes days, or even weeks before the actual holiday comes. Even I had taken a part in this exciting tradition for nearly four years straight and the desire to want to stand out from everyone else’s costumes makes the creativeness of one’s costume even greater. Costume wearing is typically worn from kids or teenagers and is usually worn to school to show their fellow peers.

As a sophomore in high school, I have seen many interesting and unusual costumes worn throughout a school day. It was clear that either some students just did not care about the costume trend or some treated the situation as a life or death situation. However, after attending 11 years of a public education school system, one person’s costume has definitely stood out. After interviewing other students that attend different high schools than I, there were some contenders for the spot of the most creative costume we have seen in person like Lil Pump’s attire in his new music video, I Love It and an elephant named Dumbo from the Disney classic, Dumbo.

There were also many more costumes that sure seemed to stand out from others but the one Halloween costume that can be deemed as the most creative costume would be a student dressed up as Professor X.

At first it may not sound as creative but, Brian, who is one of the students I had interviewed for the most creative outfit he had seen said, “One of the students was dressed up as Professor X and shaved off all his hair just for this costume.”

This obviously shows great commitment and thought process put into the costume as a student shaved off all his hair and even came up in a wheelchair to look exactly like Professor X. The idea of coming to school in a wheelchair when not being injured is alone silly; but shaving off all of one’s hair just for one night is like topping off a chocolate milkshake with cherries on top. With another Halloween coming up in exactly 365 days, there will definitely be more ideas brought into the costume trends for other kids to use and hopefully set themselves apart from other students. Perhaps next year there will be more.
