The Burger Debate

“Where does the cheese go?” is not really a question you think would cause a lot of trouble, but with the recent events, we can see that that is not the case. After a successful launch, Google decided to release a second phone on the line of Google phones called the Google Pixel. With the release of Google Pixel 2, the creators have been working hard to create a fresh batch of redesigned emojis, but in the process, the burger that they reedited has stirred a lot of debate.

Thomas Baekdal, an author, magazine publisher, and a media analyst, posted on his Twitter feed a comparison between Google and Apple’s version of the burger emoji. He stated, “I think we need to have a discussion about how Google’s burger emoji is placing the cheese underneath the burger, while Apple puts it on top.”

Many people replied to this, giving their own feedback on where the cheese should be. According to CNN, one user said that the cheese should go on top of the meat, while others claimed that it should be placed above all the toppings. One user even said to put the cheese on top of the bun!

This debate has caused mayhem in the Google offices, so much that the CEO spoke on the issue at hand. On his Twitter, he tweeted “Will drop everything else we are doing and address on Monday:) if folks can agree on the correct way to do this!” The fact that Google would just drop everything and fix the position of the cheese is kind of absurd.

“FOX and Friends”, a daily morning show that covers the news, made room in their schedule to debate it out for themselves. They each took turns giving their own feedback on where a cheese should be in a burger, but the takeaway from this is how this debate has become so tremendously big that it was covered in the news.

After looking at the burger debate, a conclusion can be made by some that this is playground talk, this is something elementary students would be talking about during their lunch time. The question should not even be a big issue in society because there are plenty of major issues happening that could be argued about. Instead, this issue of whether the cheese should be below the patty or above the toppings has come out as a dilemma. If anything can be gained from this, it is the fact that something as minor as a detail of an emoji can collapse a whole network, a news channel, and even THE company that is the most popular search site and creator of some of the products we have in our houses today. If this one issue can bring chaos, what would bring destruction, what would make a nation crumble?
