The Importance of Water
For students, especially those in college or high school, a major concern is overwhelming stress and, not to mention, constant exhaustion. More often than not, they simply do not or forget to drink water on a daily basis because of their busy schedules. A sip of water would seem insignificant and, to students, a waste of valuable time. However, water is a basic need of the body and vital for brain function. While some may think, “But isn’t 3/4ths of our body made up of water? I thought that the idea that we have to drink eight glasses a day was a superstition,” it is always best to drink plenty of water because our body constantly loses water in the form of sweat, urine, breathing, and other bodily processes. Drinking water also helps maintain the balance of our bodily fluids.

When a survey was conducted among a group of students who were to take an important exam, scientists found that the students who had brought water and had taken drinks of it during the test had scored 5% higher than those who hadn’t. It was also discovered that more second-year students than first-year students brought water for the exam. Students also state that they seem to gain more weight during studying, and they blame it on not having the time to exercise or cook healthy meals for themselves. However, while all of this does contribute to unhealthy weight gain, most students with this problem have been found to drink at most 3 cups of water a day. Bearing this in mind, one of the functions of water is controlling calories as well. Water also helps with acne, because it keeps the skin hydrated and looking healthy. Many students have reported having skin and weight problems with added on stress, and many of these cases are replied with, “Drink water.” Water is not only an important factor for students, but also for all others, and ultimately contributes to a healthy lifestyle.
