Is the SAT a Truly Fair Assessment?
When we hear the words“, College Board,”we think of several main things_test taking, stress, and our futures. From the SAT to APexams, College Board runs the lives of highschool students, as they create the tests thatallow us to get into colleges.

Let’ s pay attention to the amount ofmoney that we have to pay in order to takethe SAT or any AP exams. It’ s about $60-90 to take each test. This amount may betoo much for certain people, for low socioeconomicgroups cannot afford a huge loadof money, especially when an individualwants to take multiple AP courses. WhatCollege Board fails to realize is that becauseof the cost, people are discouraged to takemore rigorous courses. Why can’ t people getmore chances by making the price for examsaffordable? Is College Board only concernedabout their profit, not the students who arelooking for an opportunity and their future?Another issue that needs to be brought tolight when it comes to College Board is theoverall discussion of the SAT and whether ornot it is an accurate measurement of intelligence.

Over the past few years, the million-dollarquestion is if the SAT is a measure of aptitudeor achievement. Many state that intelligencecannot be measured through simplya three hour and forty-five minute test. BobSchaeffer of the National Center for Fair &Open Testing says,“ No test can truly measure‘aptitude’ for academic success becauseschool performance is not based on a singlefactor...Non-cognitive traits, such as creativity, motivation and“ grit,” also play significantroles.”The fact that the SAT holds such a heavyweight on college acceptance is seen as ahuge issue. Our college careers and futuresrely on a test that doesn’ t even completelymeasure our intelligence and aptitude as awhole. It is because of this that we need tochange the College Board system to create amore fair and justified educational organization.
