The organization ISIS has been on a rampant to break world peace these past few months, and they are making the headline of the news almost every day. Many people know ISIS as just a common terrorist group like the Boko Haram or Al Qaeda. ISIS stands for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria,or the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). These terrorists are located mainly in Iraq and Syria, and some parts of Lebanon and Egypt. It has officially been separated from Al Qaeda since February 3, 2014 and has been declaring itself as an Islamic state since June 2014. Their goal is to cleanse the Islam faith and make a new caliphate to imitate the Ottoman Empire before it was interfered by western powers.

ISIS has recently proven to be the main topic of everyday life among people because of the beheadings that ISIS has displayed. These scenes show how gruesome and cruel ISIS is with its captives, including the situations of James Foley (American journalist) and many Syrian soldiers. However, beheadings are not even the beginning of ISIS’cruel crimes. This criminal group has been on a mission to devastate every single person that blocks their path in making a “new”caliphate. Because ISIS poses a threat mainly in Iraq and Syria, forces are joining together to fight against the organization. Groups like the Kurdish people, Syrian and Iraq forces, and other supporters are trying to stop ISIS. However, these soldiers cannot defeat ISIS on their own because more support needs to come from other countries.

Furthermore, an issue that is ongoing with ISIS is the recruitment of new followers. ISIS does not merely recruit people in the Middle East but also in western countries.According to statistics, there has been 20,000 people joining the fight for ISIS, and 3,400 among them are from western countries such as America, France, and the UK. Social media has played an important role for the recruitment of ISIS. This terrorist organization uses applications such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and even their own professional magazine.

Countries and the United Nations must take reasonable action now to prevent ISIS in order to ensure peace. From ISIS, the whole community of the world can learn to come together as one and join the fight against the group that wants to destroy freedom.
