100,000 Koreans’ Data to Go Aboard Satellite

Satellite Arirang II, the unmanned multi-purpose satellite that is scheduled to take off next November from Russia, will carry pictures and names of 100,000 Koreans.
The Ministry of Science and Technology said Tuesday Arirang II will load such personal data to draw the attention of the general public to the nation’s fledgling space technologies.
Those who want to participate in the event can apply at a Web site of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute of www.karischool.re.kr by registering their names, birth dates, addresses and pictures.
The winners will be decided on a first-come-first-served basis.
The information will be stored in a memory chip inside the 266.7 billion won satellite, which will take an orbit at an elevation of 685 kilometers.
