Critical thinking(사고력)을 높이기 위한 방법으로 생각을 조직적으로 정리하기 위해서 그래픽 오거나이저(graphic organizers)를 학생들이 사용하도록 권합니다. 그래픽 오거나이저는 학생들이 비교/대조(compare and contrast), 순서(sequence), 부분/전체 관계(part/whole relationships), 분류(classification), 유사(analogy) 등 공부하는데 중요한 key skills를 도와줍니다.

①작문하기 전 초안 작성할 때(pre-writing) ②에세이나 리포트의 아이디어를 조직적으로 정리할 때 ③추상적인 개념을 이해할 때 ④인포메이션을 평가할 때 ⑤문제해결 할 때 사고를 정리해 주는 좋은 도구입니다.

예를 들면 책을 읽고 주인공에 대해 토의할 때 다음과 같은 질문을 할 수 있습니다. 자녀들을 위해 영어로 썼습니다.

Critical Thinking Press(website: www.criticalthinking.com)에서 나온 Organizing Thinking-Graphic Organizers라는 책이 도움이 될 것입니다. 다같은 내용과 지식도 교사들이나 학부모들의 질문 방법(questioning techniques)에 따라 학생들의 사고력 개발에 영향을 끼칠 수가 있기 때문에 교사 지침서 등을 보면 높은 사고력(higher-order thinking skills)에 대한 strategies(방법)를 강조해 놓았습니다.
